Our Story

We are a small family-oriented breeder located in southwest Iowa specializing in Vizslas. We started breeding Vizslas in 2022 because we wanted to share the joy and love that these amazing animals have brought to our lives. Our matriarch, Relay, is an incredible family dog that loves going for long walks and runs.

Hungarian Vizslas were originally bred to be pointer/retreiver hunting dogs and have long been sought after for their unique size and disposition. Vizslas are tireless bird dogs in the field. But they firmly believe that they are members of the family and want (sometimes demand) to be treated as such. We love our Vizslas and they are definitely a major part of our family's lives. Both Relay and Medley are inside-outside dogs that we crate-trained when they were pups. We recently built a climate-controlled outdoor kennel for them on days we are at school. We utilize Seaton Vet Clinic in Denison for regular checkups and proudly call Tarin Clausen our vet! She is excellent and has a vast knowledge of the breed. We use Diamond brand food for our dogs with an extra dose of daily love from our children.
Vizslas are exceptionally active and do require focused exercise on a daily basis. Our dogs love going on a 6 mile run and then melt on your lap on the couch. The ultimate VELCRO DOG. Our Vizslas are bred to be great family dogs. Our children spend lots of time with the puppies throughout the entire process. We believe this helps build strong connections and trust which we hope will someday snuggle into your family's arms as well.

All Coenen Vizsla puppies are raised with family in mind. Our own children have a hand in every step of the process. Needless to say, Puppy Take-Home Day isn't an easy one for our kids.
All Coenen Vizsla pups are handled and loved multiple times/day. We take pride in knowing each of our individual puppies well enough to personality match

Our pups grow up around six kids, farm cats, chickens and lots of corn. If you are looking for a family pet with rust-colored hair, Coenen Vizslas have what you are looking for.

" We started a yearly calendar 4 years ago and it's been growing organically ever since. Last year I added stickers and magnets and since I've had such a hard time finding hiking hats, I created my own this year! Of course then I had to add car stickers, and some other bits and bobs that I wanted for myself. We've had so many people ask us about Bravehound sweaters and so I decided to import them for sales in North America. Our materials are sourced from US based suppliers unless it's literally impossible. Not only do we prefer the higher quality materials, but we like to keep the money in our communities which has multiple positive ripple effects here where we live vs. sending that money over seas where it will not stimulate a community or employ people here."
